EXCELLENCE IS AN ATTITUDE

Many of us today get caught up in this rat race of a world we call life.  Survival of the fittest, fastest, strongest is our favorite motto.  We need to stay ahead in the game, regardless of how we do it.  There are shortcuts in life we can already take.  And then at the end of the line, we forget everything else.

Pursuing excellence is an attitude we can develop over time.  We just have to make it our daily goal in everything we do.  Never sacrifice QUALITY to gain more profit, in the long run, you will lose everything.  Genuine success is not measured by the "material things" you own but the number people whose lives you chose to uplift, the people whose lives were changed because you took the time to care for them.  These are the kinds of success no one can ever take away from you, for even in death, your legacy will live on forever as the one who made a difference.

If you want to be successful in your life, you have to love what you're doing.  Successful people like Steve Jobs, Chris Gardner achieved success because they used their gifts to their advantage.  Don't waste your time doing something you hate, discover your passion, nurture and develop it and make it your focus and not money.  If you keep on focusing on money, you won't be happy.  I have heard people say, "but there's no money there".  Money isn't everything.  If you love what you're doing, you will prosper and money will come.  Success will be the one to chase you down the road.

Take time to rethink your life.  Each of us has their own God-given talent for us to succeed in life.  If a poor man can create light for 200 houses using everyday trash, how much more for the educated one?  Don't get the course because there is money there, get the course that you love and you will excel in every area without any effort and die a happy man.
"Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude." ~ Ralph Marston

"If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude." ~Colin Powell

IT ALWAYS DEPENDS IN WHOSE HANDS IT IS IN

There's a lot of debate on the recent cover of YES Magazine.  For those who don't know, it features Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor holding a cigarette.  The magazine claims the picture is "incidental" and not intended to promote anything.  It lead me to think about the cover.  Boy Abunda says, "I did not notice the cigarette..."  I heard someone argue that if ever kids see it, we have to "educate" them, we need to "protect" them from these images.  Images which are put on NEWS STANDS PUBLICLY, IN PLAIN SIGHT.  So, when you go to the mall, make sure that your kid's eyes are covered with a hanky.

I would like to share this with you and in the end, you be the judge.

A baseball in Mark Mcguire's hands is worth $19 million.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A tennis racket is useless in my hands.
A tennis racket in Pete Sampras' hands is a Wimbledon Championship.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A rod in my hands will keep away a wild animal.
A rod in Moses' hands will part the mighty sea.

It depends whose hands it's in.

A sling shot in my hands is a kid's toy.
A sling shot in David's hand is a mighty weapon.

It depends whose hands it's in.

Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches.
Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in God's hands will feed thousands.

It depends whose hands it's in.

FFJ GOT TALENT SEPT 30, 2011

FFJ GOT TALENT NIGHT, Monday Cell was preparing for their presentation.  One thing that struck me was the First of 3 P's.  Prioritize God was the first one.  Matthew 6:33 reminds us to put God FIRST and the rest will follow.  How often do we neglect this simple command?

The scene was a guy was asking for advice about a recent promotion at Mercury Drug.  However, the promotion will take Sunday Worship away from him.  This man has an excellent track record with no absences regardless of weather.  But, he rejected the offer and explained it to his superiors, to whom understood his position.  How many of us has our integrity in tact that we are willing to turn down a better offer?

The next P is Petition.  A man was waiting for approval for his franchise approval.  To expedite the process, he needs to shell out 150K.  He stands firm in his decision to wait, resulting in more delays.  They petitioned the matter to the Lord, and true enough, he got the franchise.  The world pressures us to take the short route, the easy way, time is gold, time is money so we jump the gun and succumb to its lies just to have it done.  We have forgotten however that we answer to an even higher authority, the authority of God.  He assures us in His word that if we remain in Him, we can ask anything and it will be granted (John 15:7).

I wasn't able to get the 3rd P but rest assured that I will get it and update this blog.

We need to understand that we should always submit to God's authority no matter what the world says.  Jesus himself said “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

The Marshals did an interesting debate on whether Manny Pacquiao should run for VP.  Each side presented their thoughts hilariously, we are reminded on one important fact.  Why are we debating with each other when we can unite our thoughts in healthy discussion.

Men@Work also gave a hilarious presentation reminding us that we don't have to keep on copying other countries when we can build our own identity, the Filipino Race is not obsolete.

Another gave an excellent performance using black light and singing to the tune of LUZVIMINDA, one of my favorite presentations.  It is not easy dealing with black light especially when you have to hold the black cloth up.  A great effort.

And Friday Royale gave a rendition of Mi Ultimo Adios in Tagalog, 16 stanzas showing Rizal to be a born-again Christian.  I will post the entire Mi Ultimo Adios (In English and Tagalog) and highlight the key points showing his Christianity.

I-Connect Couples Journey Group gave us an eye opener as to our ignorance on our own history and knowledge of Rizal.  For every time the truth is being explained, the background music is played preventing us from hearing the truth.  It showed that we need to seek more, dig more into our History and know the REAL SCORE and STORY of our LOST HISTORY.  I will try to gather some information and share it on another blog.

I wasn't able to watch the others, sorry = (

This was surely an unforgettable night for me, and I am sure that it was for those who supported this event.  Coach Edgar Ramos reminded us of the importance of FELLOWSHIP, of knowing our brethren, caring for them, bearing each others burden.  It opened my eyes to the reality of life.  No man is an island, everyone needs someone to talk to.

I am excited to have more of these events but on a greater scale.  I believe that unity can achieve anything.  God bless us all.  Congratulations to all who participated.  To God be the Glory!

No man ever reached to excellence in any one art or profession without having passed through the slow and painful process of study and preparation. ~Horace

Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks

To learn new things is to empty one's cup. Learning is perpetual, it sees no age limit. They say: "You cannot teach an old dog new tricks". I say: The trainer stopped learning, that's why he didn't discover ways to teach the old dog new tricks. We've been "TRICKED" to believing this adage that we stopped learning and discovering. Here's better way to put it: "You can always teach an old dog new tricks, you just have to learn how."
As we mature, we often get wisdom from the "age old sayings" to guide us.  But most of these sayings have put a limit to our lives and we unknowingly live by them and end up miserable and discontented with our lives.  Take for instance the saying "You cannot teach an old dog new tricks", this popular saying puts a limit to our beautiful minds.  Life is a world of discoveries, had Thomas Edison stopped trying, we wouldn't have light bulbs.  Had Alexander Graham Bell stopped attempting what others thought was impossible, we wouldn't have communications.  The list goes on and on.
Effective today, let your minds create new things, forget about what other people are saying, learning is ageless, there is not one person in the world who knows everything because everyday, we learn a new thing, we discover new species, new life, until our lives are taken away from us, we cannot stop learning.  To fight Alzheimer's disease is to keep our minds activated and motivated to create, innovate and make our lives more exciting.
There is no limit to education, ignorance is a lazy excuse for not wanting to learn more.  And once you learn, share your knowledge and push people to create and discover new things from what you have learned and share it again so that innovation will become an infinite source of motivation for us to improve the quality of our lives.
